This transformative endeavour, made possible through financial support from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), now boasts an impressive total of nine buildings, with four new additions to the glowing ensemble.

"The expansion of the Illuminate Downtown Guelph initiative is a bright light for the city’s tourism industry, providing a colourful way to draw residents and visitors to the downtown core,” said the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario. “Our government knows that small business plays a vital role in Canada’s economy, and we are happy to support efforts that help create memorable experiences while contributing to the success of local businesses.”

“I am a proud Guelphite, and it is so good to see our beautiful, historic buildings in the downtown core have been made even more spectacular,” said Lloyd Longfield, Member of Parliament for Guelph. “The local organizations that worked on this project contributed to its creativity and diversity, making it more than just a lighting display but also a way to showcase our culture and heritage.

The newly illuminated landmarks include the iconic Gummer Building (Skyline), The George (42 Wyndham St N), Frank & Steins, and Hope House. These architectural gems join the distinguished lineup that debuted in 2021, featuring The Wellington Building, The Old Post Office, Royal City Church, the Guelph Civic Museum, and Old Quebec Street Shoppes. The result is a breathtaking after-dark panorama that captivates and connects the community to their city.

The illuminated structures, which include remarkably preserved 19th-century stone facades, a stunning art deco frontage, and a modern architectural landmark, collectively showcase the exceptional architectural heritage of Downtown Guelph. Each of the 9 structures will be illuminated from 30 minutes after sunset until 11 pm, contributing to a vibrant cityscape that celebrates the unique character of Downtown Guelph.

In addition to the regular nightly display, Illuminate Downtown Guelph will mark special occasions, further reinforcing its commitment to community engagement. The illuminated structures will play host to themed displays during significant events such as Black Heritage Month in February, Pride Month in June, and the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation in September.

Illuminate Downtown Guelph invites residents and visitors alike to immerse themselves in the enchanting glow of the city's architectural treasures and to celebrate the rich tapestry of Downtown Guelph's history and diversity.
