For Immediate Release - July 12, 2025
Ontario Greens Leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement after a riverside chat and public meet & greet hosted by Dresden CARED at the Dresden Legion.
“I spoke with so many people in Dresden tonight who care about their community.
They are fed up with Bill 5, the Ford government’s broken promise on the EA for the Dresden Dump, and the disrespect shown to their community.
People here care deeply about protecting Ontario’s farmland, green spaces, and water. They care about upholding Indigenous rights. And they care about keeping your word. They have every right to be angry with the Premier.
Bill 5 is an attack on our democracy. It strips away local voices, violates the constitutional duty to consult First Nations, and puts the people and places we love at risk.
The Dresden Dump puts local biodiversity and species at risk in jeopardy. It puts waterways and agricultural land at risk. And the Ford government’s broken promise to require an environmental assessment for the project just confirms what we already knew: we can’t trust Doug Ford to keep his word, or to act for the public good when deep pocketed donors want a special deal.
But what’s clear to me after tonight is this: we have the people power to stop Doug Ford.
I’m inspired by the people fighting to protect Ontario from Doug Ford. The people of Dresden are standing up and fighting back, and I will continue to stand with them until we kill Bill 5.”
