Other cities—cities like Abbotsford, Sarnia, Calgary and Regina—are stirring up the competition, answering the challenge that Guelph threw out when it declared that it was Canada’s most generous city. Each city is hoping to prove that their city is in fact Canada’s most generous by launching their own campaigns on December 2nd in efforts to give Guelph a run for its money.
GuelphGives is celebrating giving in all of its forms and is asking for city-wide participation from individuals, not-for-profits, organizations and businesses. The hope is to inspire Canada by showcasing the power of a city coming together to give.
To help inspire all Guelphites, the team behind GulpehGives has put together 7 easy things you can do to take part in GuelphGives:
(1) Visit the Giving Fair at Quebec St. Mall from 10am-6pm to learn about some of the great local causes here in Guelph. There's also a free skate being offered at the Sleeman Centre from 1-2pm, so bring your family, work team or friends by for a skate and visit the Giving Fair!
(2) Come play charity Plinko at Stone Rd. Mall from 10am-2pm and support great Guelph nonprofit organizations with a toonie.
(3) Check out all the stores and businesses taking part in GuelphGives at guelphgives.ca and shop to help their giveback.
(4) Support your favourite organization with a gift, some volunteer time, or help them build awareness about their work. You can check out the GuelphGives partners and make your gift here: http://www.guelphgives.ca/whos-involved/
(5) Take an “unselfie” photo of you doing something good and post it on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the hashtags #GuelphGives and #GivingTuesdayCA
(6) Come out to the GuelphGave finale event at Red Papaya in Old Quebec Street Mall beginning at 6:30pm. It's a great mash-up of social good, including Goodworking and The Elevator Project Round 2 Launch. You can find the information on the GuelphGives site.
(7) (And most important) REPORT IN your giving results at the www.guelphgives.ca homepage. The only way to prove that Guelph is Canada’s most generous city is if YOU tell what you did. All giving stories should be shared and celebrated.
Guelph is ready to celebrate giving on December 2nd and is looking forward to the community coming together to give back.
