George Bridge Re-elected Chair of the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus' (WOWC) Economic Development Committee
 


County Councillor and Minto Mayor, George Bridge, has been re-elected Chair of the WOWC’ Economic Development Committee. The term for Chair of the Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus Economic Development Committee is one year.

For Immediate Release - February 08, 2021

The WOWC Economic Development Committee emphasizes a regional and collaborative approach to dealing with the implications of a transforming economy and focuses on identifying cross-cutting regional economic development opportunities that have implications for all aspects of the Southwestern Ontario economy.

Highlighted in the Economic Development plan are four regional strategic priorities, each priority is centered on supporting and informing the following regional economic development outcomes:

• Innovation and productivity improvements within the business community;
Development and deployment of a workforce that is responsive to the existing and emerging needs of business; and

•  A regional view of sectors, markets, infrastructure requirements, and workforce challenges to reflect the reality of business, industry supply chains and trade.

The four-strategic priorities are:

•  Strategic Priority #1: Regional Workforce Planning

•  Strategic Priority #2: Regional Infrastructure Investment

•  Strategic Priority #3: Regional Sector Strategies

•  Strategic Priority #4: Regional Marketing and Promotion

For 2021 key projects include;

•  Regional Workforce Strategy

•  Mapping the region’s agri-food and manufacturing assets

•  Support for SWIFT 2.0 and increased investment in Western Ontario’s broadband infrastructure

“I’m honoured to have been re-elected Chair of this important committee,” said George Bridge. “A key component of moving the economic development programme forward will be assessing the impacts that COVID-19 is having on the region and how we can best position the region for recovery.”
