Repair Café Guelph Is Back!

Released For Publication - April 2, 2022

GUELPH TOOL LIBRARY RESTARTS REPAIR CAFE EVENTS

The Guelph Tool Library announced Friday April 1st that they are restarting the popular Repair Café events.

For the past 5 years, the organization offered bi-monthly Repair Cafés at various locations throughout the City; however, since March 2020, due to pandemic restrictions, many of those events got canceled.

"We are excited to be able to bring back these popular events to our community again and have multiple events planned from April till December" says Repair Café Coordinator, Saba Saneinejad. The Repair Cafes this year are organized in collaboration with the City of Guelph.

“Guelph is a community that cares for the environment. At the City, we’re proud to support the Repair Café, which focuses on repairing, reusing and repurposing string instruments and to collaborate with the Guelph Tool Library. We strive, through Guelph’s Solid Waste Management Master Plan, to give items that may be viewed as waste, a new life. The Repair Café, through the efforts of volunteers and commitment of the community, is doing just that – giving items a new life and keeping usable items out of our landfill. ” says City of Guelph Waste Program Coordinator, Asia Murphy.

The Repair Cafés will start with an event on Saturday April 9th from 11 to 3 at the Guelph Tool Library (Old Quebec Street Shoppes, 55, Wyndham St N Unit T8). Items that can be brought are: electronics, small electrical appliances, clothing, jewelry, clocks, and much more.

"We are also offering a unique fixing service at this Repair Café. A volunteer will be available to work on your string instruments (Guitars and violins). He can do string changes (please bring your own strings) and make adjustments to your instruments to make them play easier!" says Saneinejad.

Repair Cafes are events where people can bring their broken items and have them fixed with the help of our volunteer fixers, and learn how its done.
