Ontario Public Library Week is October 16 - 22

For Immediate Release - October 13, 2022

Celebrate Ontario Public Library Week (OPLW) at the Wellington  County Library (WCL).

This year, the theme for OPLW is one card, one million possibilities,  which speaks to the important role libraries play in the communities they proudly serve.

Wellington County is home to 14 branches including 5 Carnegie buildings known for their  distinctive architecture. All branches offer a variety of programming, services, and resources.  We encourage residents to visit their local branch or go and explore a new one during Ontario  Public Library Week. We offer innovative collections in-branch as well as many online services  for learning and fun. Let our staff help you find your next great read or your next favourite  video game.

Libraries are a central source of service, support, education, and entertainment. They are  community hubs, gathering places that support cultural awareness and social connectivity. This  week serves to highlight the importance of public libraries in Ontario, and Wellington County  offers 14 wonderful examples of what public libraries are all about.

“Every year, over half a million patrons come through the WCL doors,” says Warden Kelly  Linton. “We also circulate close to one million items. The County has invested over $30 million  in our library system. The WCL system is envied by many municipalities across Canada.”

“The WCL is pleased to offer incredible programming and resources to the community we  proudly serve,” says Rebecca Hine, Chief Librarian of the Wellington County Library. “I’d like to  encourage all our residents to visit and explore their local library branch to see what we have to  offer. In celebration of OPLW, the WCL will be providing free library card replacements for lost  or well used cards.”
