JayWalking Guelph celebrates it’s 6’th season as the storytelling walking tours return Friday May 5.
May is Food For Kids Month at JayWalking Guelph. $10 from every ticket will go to support local families.
“Guelph’s stunning limestone architecture serves as the perfect backdrop for these stories. That’s what makes JayWalking Guelph an experience you simply can’t get anywhere else. JayWalking Guelph is popular with residents, but visitors also love learning about Guelph, and a walking tour allows them to experience Guelph up close,”

The Gwelf Early Days Tour features amusing diary entries, thrilling newspaper writings and local 19’th century poetry recited from memory as we visit unique historical locations in downtown Guelph. You’ll also learn the meaning behind the odd spelling “Gwelf”. Stories include, “The First Four To Die” - Charles Pryor attempts to convince Britain that Guelph is a safe place to live, “The Baby Contest”- the first couple to produce a child in Guelph gets 50 acres of land, free, and “Stricklands Storm” - the first tornado in Guelph in which local residents, even then, suspected climate change.
The Unfortunate Man Tour is the true story of William Harvey from 1889. We’ll visit the location of The World Publishing Company, where William worked, St. George’s Church where he was the Sunday School Superintendent, see the location of Bond’s Hardware store where he bought the pistol and spend time hearing the conclusion of his story at the Wellington County Courthouse, where he was hanged. Draw your own conclusions as to whether or not William was insane as the Alienist at the new Homewood Sanitorium believed. Note this tour is NOT for children.
In addition to the two tours, scheduled randomly on Tuesday and Friday nights May-October 2023, groups of 4 or more people can choose to have a tour any day, any time. Imagine a tour at dawn, or perhaps a tale of murder presented in the jail yard at the stroke of midnight! Jay, your host, is standing by JayWalkingGuelph.ca
