King Charles III Coronation Medals for Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home Volunteers

All are welcome to attend the presentation ceremony on Monday, March 10 at 2:00 pm

For Immediate Release - March 7, 2025

On Monday, March 10 at 2:00 pm, the Honourable Robert Black, Senator of Ontario, will present King Charles III Coronation Medals to two outstanding volunteers of the  Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home: Margaret Young and Julie Wheeler-Bryant.

About the Recipients

Margaret Young joined the Terrace as a volunteer in 2018, where she initially supported the Occupational Therapy clinic each week, assisting residents to and from appointments and helping with mobility equipment. In 2022, Margaret became a Travelling Tuck Cart volunteer, bringing treats and snacks to residents in two neighbourhoods weekly. She also dedicated her time to supporting residents in the Dementia Care neighbourhood during lunch, helping to provide a pleasurable dining experience for those who can no longer assist themselves at mealtimes.

“Margaret’s dedication and kindness truly embodied the spirit of volunteering. She made every resident feel at home with a warm welcome and a smile,” said Leah Smith, a Wellington Terrace Recreation Therapist.

Over her seven years with Wellington Terrace, Margaret has provided more than 650 hours of  friendship, support, and care to residents.

Julie Wheeler-Bryant holds the distinction of being Wellington Terrace's longest-serving  volunteer, with an impressive 27 years of continuous service. Through the St. John's Therapy Dog programme, Julie has shared her beloved dogs - currently Lili, and previously Gus and Molly - with Terrace residents. These therapy visits have brought comfort, joy, and companionship to residents, creating meaningful connections and enhancing their quality of life.

“Julie is such a joy. She is so warm and friendly, and the best part is she brings in her cuddly friends to see us,” said Wellington Terrace resident Reta.

Julie also co-created the Paws 4 Stories Programme for Wellington County libraries more than 10 years ago, where therapy dogs "listen" to children read aloud. She currently serves on the Library Board in the County of Wellington, further demonstrating her commitment to serving the Wellington community.

About the Recognition

The King Charles III Coronation Medal recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region, or community, or who have attained outstanding achievements abroad that bring credit to Canada.

"The dedication shown by Margaret and Julie represents the very best of our community," said Suzanne Dronick, Wellington Terrace Administrator. "Their years of service have made an immeasurable impact on the lives of Wellington Terrace residents and the broader Wellington County community. We are proud to see them receive this well-deserved recognition."

All are welcome to attend the presentation ceremony on Monday, March 10 at 2:00 pm at the Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home, located at 474 Charles Allan Way, Fergus.
