Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras will go live in Hillsburgh on June 20.
This is the sixth ASE location to be implemented as part of Wellington County’s one year pilot programme to help reduce speeding and improve road safety in school and Community Safety Zones.
Located at Wellington Road 24 (Trafalgar Road) between Church Street and Jane Street, the Community Safety Zone in Hillsburgh was determined based on traffic data and safety reviews completed during the County’s Road Master Action Plan. The ASE cameras will be located within the Community Safety Zone and “Camera In Use” signs will replace the previous camera warning signs.
The programme is already showing positive results. From January 15 to May 31, average vehicle speeds at the five active camera locations have dropped by 17%, and speed limit compliance has increased by 62%.
“ASE is a reminder to slow down and drive safely,”
said Gregg Davidson, Roads Committee Chair. “These cameras are about protecting people in our communities.”
