Get ready to celebrate the lively art of live performance when the Guelph Fringe Festival returns to downtown Guelph for four days, August 7 to 10.
For just $18 or less, audiences can choose from a diverse lineup of shows performed by independent artists from near and far.
This year’s event features an exciting playbill of 35 performances showcasing the original work of many new and emerging artists. The shows are performed in two downtown venues: Art Not Shame on Wyndham Street, and the new Guelph Arts Council space inside the Old Quebec Street Mall.
“This festival will be even more intimate, since our two performance spaces are literally steps apart,” said Festival Coordinator Paul Barson. “Now, it’s easier to see more shows in less time, support more independent artists, and have a blast while you’re doing it.”
Performers at the Fringe are selected through a lottery system, providing a mix of original works that run the full gamut of performing arts. “It might be a personal drama, a lively dance routine, a mini musical, or stand-up comedy,” added Barson. “There’s something for everyone, and it’s always a delightful surprise.”
Since the mainstage shows are not curated, they are also not censored. But the festival does offer some family-friendly options in the mix.
This year, the popular Fireflies on the Fringe program returns, featuring five shows curated especially for kids aged 0 to 12. Fireflies shows run Saturday and Sunday mornings, and tickets are $10 each.
Guelph Fringe is a member of the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals and part of a network of more than 300 fringe festivals around the world. The Guelph festival continues to thrive thanks to the generous support of downtown businesses, our media sponsors, and a grant from the City of Guelph.
“We’re so grateful for the support of our community partners,” said Barson. “Their backing allows us to bring this amazing festival to Guelph for just $18 a ticket, so it’s the best entertainment value you’ll find anywhere.”
