Carols for Christmas, Sunday, December 4th

Guelph Chamber Choir presents Carols for Christmas with Harp, Flute and Hurdy-Gurdy!

The Guelph Chamber Choir invites you to partake in the joy of the season with an afternoon concert of Carols for Christmas, at St. George’s Anglican Church on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 2:30 pm.

Gather in the warm company of music lovers who come together to herald the holiday season with Christmas music and readings.  Enjoy listening to old Christmas favourites as well as new songs of the season.  Join in singing some of the great carols in the acoustic and architectural beauty of St. George’s Anglican Church in downtown Guelph.

Our tradition of welcoming audience members to join the choir to sing Handel’s well-known Hallelujah Chorus will conclude the afternoon’s festivities.

Conductor Gerald Neufeld remarked, “This promises to be an exciting program with new and familiar carols accompanied by harp, flute and hurdy-gurdy, a medieval instrument that has found a modern voice.  With the message of Christmas in music, we can do our part to nurture a care-full, considerate and peaceful society in our own corner of the global village.”

The choir is pleased to welcome world-renowned, Guelph based artists to share our stage at home.  Sharlene Wallace is one of Canada’s most prolific and influential Classical and Celtic harp players.  Her music takes the listener on a journey into beauty, rhythm and spaciousness that soothes and uplifts the soul.

2016 Grammy-nominated flutist Ron Korb has been traveling and collecting indigenous woodwinds from Europe, Asia and South America for years.  His compositions are steeped in the diverse cultural traditions and experiences of his travels and upbringing in Canada.  He has been hailed internationally as the ‘prince of flutes.’

Completing an eclectic trio is Ben Grossman on hurdy-gurdy and percussion.  He works in many fields having played on over 100 CDs, film soundtracks, theatre, radio and live performance spanning from early medieval music to experimental electronica.  He has become renown for the hurdy-gurdy, a contemporary electro-acoustic string instrument with roots in the European middle ages.  Prepare to be surprised and amazed.

Single tickets are now available for only $25 each or 4 for $80.
We encourage young adults to attend with $10 tickets for students and those 30 and under and only $5 for youth with eyeGO.
