Crafty Ramen is a funky little noodle shop selling ramen (Japanese noodle soup) made with Ontario wheat and local sourced ingredients. We’re putting our own twist on ramen with local ingredient just like they do in Japan. We’ve also got Gyoza’s (dumplings) and Karaage (fried chicken) both of which are Miki’s families recipes which she’s been making since she was a kid.
Opening Crafty Ramen is a dream come true for Miki and Jared realized after 2 years of planning while working on a private yacht together. Their love of ramen dates back long before that though. Jared can remember eating his first ramen in Vancouver 3 years before meeting Miki and deciding to go to live in Japan with her. Miki’s passion for ramen started much earlier when she worked at a local ramen shop in her home town of Morioka, Iwate while still in school.
For years, Miki and Jared lived in Tokyo, Japan indulging their culinary addiction by eating at as many place they could in the most Michelin starred city in the world. Jared was completing his post apprenticeship training by working for some of the worlds best chefs Alain Ducasse and Gordon Ramsey.
Miki having always wanted to bring people together ran a English school in Japan where she was able to help English speakers work in Japan and experience the Japanese culture while also helps Japanese people to learn a language to while help them go out and experience the world more full. Now she has moved to Canada she really wants to provide a place where the local Japanese community can get a taste of home while introducing people to Guelphites to some Japanese culture in a familiar atmosphere.
Now together they are combining love, talents and training to provide a hearty bowl of the ultimate comfort food while bring to culture together.
