Wellington County Museum to host Zoongeheshkwaad student art show

GUELPH, Ontario – Works of art created by Upper Grand District School Board students, inspired by First Nations, Métis and Inuit culture and art, will be on display in Wellington County this spring.

The show, Zoongeheshkwaad, will be showcased at the Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) from April 25 to June 25, 2017.

The opening reception for Zoongeheshkwaad is on Tuesday April 25 at 7 p.m. In addition to the works of art, the opening reception will feature entertainment, light refreshments and vendors. All are welcome to attend.

“The exhibit name, Zoongeheshkwaad, was suggested by Isaac Murdoch, an Ojibwe knowledge carrier who does a lot of work in Upper Grand. Loosely translated, it means to help someone move forward in a good way, to encourage others to move ahead together,” said Colinda Clyne, the Upper Grand DSB’s Curriculum Lead for Equity/First Nations, Métis, Inuit Education.

OPENING RECEPTION DETAILS:
   DATE: Tuesday April 25, 2017
   TIME: 7 p.m.
PLACE: WCMA, 0536 Wellington Road 18, Fergus
The exhibit will be up during the Turtle Island Heritage Festival, which celebrates First Nations, Métis and Inuit culture through a series of workshops for students. This year’s festival runs from April 24 to 27 at the WCMA.

The WCMA is located on Wellington Road 18, between Fergus and Elora.
