Saturday, May 20, 2017 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Guelph Police Service invites teens to learn more about their unique program at an upcoming Guelph Police Venturers Open House scheduled for May 24th. This, theme-based, Scouting program provides youth (ages 15-17 years) with an introduction to policing and law enforcement. This is done through demonstrations, discussions and appropriate hands on experiences such as supporting community events and police events and building a strong team. The program also includes other Venturer Scout outdoor-focused elements such as camping, hiking and canoe trips.
Started in 2013, the Guelph Police Venturer program demonstrates a strong partnership between the Guelph Police Services and Canada’s leading youth organization, Scouts Canada.
“We are very proud to partner with Scouts Canada to support the Guelph Police Venturers program, explains Guelph Police Chief Jeff DeRuyter. “Through Venturers, young people have an opportunity to gain insight into different aspects of policing, but also participate in various community events and scouting activities. Venturers is a great way to meet with other youth, develop leadership skills and to be involved in our community.”
"Being a member of GPV has allowed me to experience things I did not know about previously”, explains Mackenzie Storrey (age 16) Company Leader. "I have had some very fun and positive interactions with local police officers as well as taking on exciting adventures, like traveling to Finland with thousands of other youth."
Youth interested in the program are encouraged to attend:
