Fresh on the heels of Celebration 150, a sold-out concert at the River Run Centre, the Guelph Chamber Choir invites you to come ring in the Christmas season with the help of acclaimed bell choir Bells Ablaze at an afternoon concert of Carols for Christmas in the intimate setting of St. George’s Anglican Church on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 2:30 pm.
Come sing along to familiar carols, thrill to the sight of bell ringers creating precise and wondrous sounds, hear the choir raise their voices in melodious power, listen to poetry and tales of Christmases past and present, and feel the essential renewal of the season.
The choir is pleased to welcome back bell choir Bells Ablaze and its director Susan Carscadden-Mifsud. An invitational hand-bell choir, drawing bell-ringers from communities throughout southwestern Ontario, this dynamic and accomplished group of ringers play challenging repertoire without a conductor, requiring not only a high degree of musicianship from each ringer, but a level of synergy and collaboration beyond that found in most ensembles.
Conductor Gerald Neufeld remarked, “Our annual carol concert allows us to explore music from the rich and varied choral repertoire for Christmas. Beautiful carols, sung with care and intent, together with the gentle sound of hand bells, promise to create a magical, meditative environment for this concert in beautifully-decorated St. George’s Church. A major piece will be Canadian composer Imant Raminsh’s beautiful Magnificat, a work of tender melodies and electrifying rhythms.”
A new Christmas recording, Carols of the Bells, featuring both the Guelph Chamber Choir and Bells Ablaze will be available for sale. Selections from the recording will be featured during the concert. CDs will be available for $20 to take home and enjoy and to give to friends and relatives as gifts.
