Last Minute Flea Market

Punk Rock Flea Market Guelph Returns With A Last Minute Christmas Market

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - November 26th, 2018

On Saturday, December 22nd, finish up your Christmas shopping at the Punk Rock Flea Christmas Market

The Punk Rock Flea Market is a movement that has been popping up in bars and other social hubs over the last few years. Many Southern Ontario towns host their own, including Hamilton, London and recently Kitchener-Waterloo as well as Toronto.

Nick Clark, of Pressed By Nick, has been organizing the event since July of 2017. As an enthusiast and promoter of local punk music, the flea market was a natural extension of his interests. Typically, the market runs monthly from mid-spring to mid-fall. This year they decided a last-minute winter market was in order.

“I tend to sleep pretty late on my Christmas shopping, so having the chance to shop local AND last-minute, all while avoiding the mall, is a huge plus", says Stephanie Clarke, co-organizer of the flea since July of this year. PRFM Guelph supports local artists, record labels, and resellers of unique vintage goods, such as clothing and jewelry.

This edition sees a venue and time change, with the market being held at DSTRCT from 12-4pm on Saturday, December 22nd.

This special-edition Punk Rock Flea Market will have Christmas and winter themed crafts and treats, including a station to make your own upcycled Holiday decor, led by Stephanie Clarke of Steph Sew Sublime. Participation in the scrappy craftalong is by donation, and no pre-registration is required. Stephanie makes iron-on patches for an initiative called #PatchesForPads that helps provide menstrual hygiene products to shelters, food banks, and other community organizations.

Visitors are encouraged to upcycle old clothes or thrift an ugly Christmas sweater rather than buying a new one. Anyone who shows up in their ugly Christmas best will be entered in to a draw for a prize donated by vendors at the flea, as well as from some local businesses.

The event is all-ages and admission is by donation ($2 or a non-perishable food item - to be donated to the food bank and Neighborhood Group food cupboards), and there will be a variety of craft and gift vendors to help you get ready for the Holidays. Drinks are available for purchase from the bar, and there will 15-20 vendors. Vendor spots are $10-$20, and must be applied for prior to December 8th.

To secure a vendor spot, send an email to prfmguelph@gmail.com
