Supporting Small Business

Business Centre kiosk at City Hall supports small business

For Immediate Release - June 19, 2019

The Business Centre Guelph-Wellington has set up a staffed kiosk in the Guelph City Hall Galleria as part of a new pilot project aimed at supporting small business. The kiosk is open weekdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A small business concierge is stationed at the kiosk to speak to the services offered by the Business Centre and answer questions. The concierge can also schedule a free one-hour consultation with a business advisor at the centre’s main office at 14 Macdonell Street. Start-up packages and information will also be available to direct clients to other business support services available throughout the city.

“Small business centres are an integral part of any city’s economy and we’re excited that the Business Centre has set up shop here at City Hall,” says Barbara Maly, economic development manager for the City of Guelph. “We often get inquiries or visits to our office from people looking to start their own business, and the Business Centre is a great resource for them.”

This pilot project will help the City track general interest in launching a new business in Guelph. The project also supports the City’s Building Partnerships initiative and demonstrates that the City of Guelph is making it easy to do business.

“One aspect of the Centre’s strategic vision is to have representation in City Hall as it is the common first stop for anyone considering starting a business,” says Kristel Manes, executive director for the Business Centre Guelph-Wellington. “We’re so excited and grateful for the opportunity to set up this kiosk in City Hall to help provide entrepreneurs convenient access to the information that they need.”
