THE BASICS - Downtown Guelph is about to get a cool new sound installation and we want a young Guelphite to name it! Hundreds of sound-activated bulbs will be wrapped around a large tree in St Georges Square creating an interactive art installation that is powered by you. Clap your hands, blow a trumpet, honk a car horn. The noise will electrify the tree and you will be dazzled by a beautiful display of colour and light.
Launching on the evening of Thursday December 5th, the lights will be on every evening after dark until the spring. The winning name will be chosen by a team of Downtown Guelph business owners and will feature on all the marketing materials.
WHO CAN ENTER - This contest is open to kids in Grades K to 12. We welcome individual or group/class entries.
THE PRIZE - The winner/s will be invited to launch the light installation on Thursday December 5th and be given a Downtown Guelph Gift Certificate to spend at the downtown store of their choice!
HOW TO ENTER -
Got a great name that needs sharing? Fill out the ONLINE ENTRY FORM
by November 14th. The name will be chosen and revealed by November 30th.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? - A few words (for example ‘The Guelph Family Fun Tree’) rather than just one word (for example ‘Doreen’) will likely work best.
Start by brainstorming words related to trees, lights and noise. You might also want to take into account the location of the tree (by the family fountain in St George’s Square), and the species of tree (it is a honey locust).
As these lights will be activated through the darkest months, you may want to think about seasonal words but avoid anything Christmas-related.
THANKS … WE REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO RECEIVING YOUR SUGGESTIONS!
