Guelph Musicfest 2020

Enjoy inspiring chamber music in the perfect acoustics of the GYMC Recital Hall or from anywhere ... on your phone, tablet, or computer!

Guelph Musicfest Update 2020-03-22

Concerts will be recorded live and will be available online for 7 days following the performances. Regular tickets will now include a Digital ticket plus a $10 discount coupon to the Wooly, Miijidaa or Borealis Guelph.

You can also buy just a Digital Ticket and enjoy from anywhere! (Digital tickets do not include a food discount coupon.) Digital ticket holders will be emailed a link to experience the concert online (the video will not be downloadable).

In the event that a concert is not allowed to proceed because of government regulation, it will be rescheduled (I've already made tentative Recital Hall bookings for October).

The maximum number of tickets for the live performances will be limited to 120 (vs the normal hall capacity of 180) to allow the seating to be more spread out for comfort and safety.

If you have a regular ticket and become ill or feel uncomfortable being in the audience, please do not come to the live performance. Your included Digital ticket will allow you to enjoy the concert for an entire week, at your convenience. Digital ticket holders will be emailed a PDF of the concert program.

Of course, you may get a refund if you are sick or the concert is forced to reschedule, but I hope you’ll support the festival and the musicians by opting to enjoy the Digital Musicfest option.

Have you already bought or ordered tickets?

I hope that the information above has eased your concerns. The shows will go on, and with a bit of luck, as scheduled.

The most likely one to be rescheduled will be the Festival Trio which is supposed to open Musicfest on Friday May 22nd. Since violinist Sadie Fields would be flying from Belgium (something she can’t do at the moment), it depends on when flight restrictions are lifted. There should be no travel issues with the recital by Bénédicte Lauzière on May 29 or the Rolston Quartet on June 5. And Robert Silverman should be able to perform on June 12 as long as the government doesn’t impose restrictions on small gatherings.

If most of you are willing to enjoy the concert using Digital Musicfest, the shows could conceivably run even with audience limitations of 50.

I’m willing to run the festival at a loss, but with your support, the shows can go on and I can still break even.

p.s. For those of you who attended the Festival Trio Encore, our audio engineer Dave has been ill, but I have audio files for the Ravel and Debussy Sonatas. The Dumky Trio is in progress. I may send out links to the two Sonatas ahead of the Dumky (I’m waiting for an editing update). Sorry for the delay.

p.p.s. Regular tickets for Musicfest will be mailed to you before the concerts so you don’t have to stand in line for pickup

What will Digital Musicfest be like?

Click the image below to watch a video of me and violinist Sadie Fields performing the 1st movement of the Ravel Violin Sonata, recorded on December 15 in the GYMC Recital Hall. (The Digital Musicfest videos will be sized for larger screens.)

We all need beautiful music in these stressful times.

The musicians need opportunities to perform and be paid for their art. We’re all in this together, and I hope that Digital Musicfest makes it possible. Thanks for your support!
