NEW DATES for Guelph Musicfest

Circumstances have persuaded me to reschedule the Festival Trio and Robert Silverman concerts to October

For Immediate Release - March 27, 2020

Announcing NEW DATES for Guelph Musicfest

Circumstances have persuaded me to reschedule the Festival Trio and Robert Silverman concerts to October (when we hopefully be closer to normal).

While I was aware of international travel restrictions, interprovincial travel restrictions surprised me. Cellist Paul Pulford must travel from New Brunswick and all the East coast provinces are now enforcing a 14 day quarantine on anyone visiting or returning from either another country or Canadian province, and Sadie Fields is coming from Belgium. The restrictions could easily spread to BC, and Robert Silverman comes from Vancouver. Delaying those two concerts seems the prudent thing to do.

The concerts by Bénédicte Lauzière and the Rolston String Quartet remain on their original dates.

The Festival Trio performs on Saturday October 3,
Robert Silverman now performs on Friday October 16.

All concerts start at 7:30 pm in the Recital Hall of the Guelph Youth Music Centre, 75 Cardigan St., Guelph.

As previously announced, all the concerts will be recorded live and will be available online for 7 days following the performances. Regular tickets will now include a Digital ticket plus a $10 discount coupon to The Wooly Pub, Miijidaa or Borealis Guelph. You can also buy just a Digital Ticket and enjoy from anywhere! (Digital tickets do not include a food discount coupon.) Digital ticket hlders will be emailed a link to experience the concert online (the video will not be downloadable). In fact, you can actually buy a Digital ticket for a concert as long as it remains online (for example, 2 days after the live performance).

The maximum number of tickets for at least the May/June live performances will be limited to 120 or less (vs the normal hall capacity of 180) to allow the seating to be more spread out for comfort and safety.

If you have a regular ticket and become ill or feel uncomfortable in the audience, please do not come to the live performance. Your included Digital ticket will allow you to enjoy the concert for an entire week, at your convenience. Digital ticket holders will be emailed a PDF of the concert program.

If you have a reserved seat, I’ll soon be offering options to move to a seat with more space.

● All regular tickets will be mailed to your home to reduce lineups at the door.

● Please pay for tickets in advance by credit card online or by mailing a cheque.

Of course, you may get a refund if you are sick or the concert is rescheduled to an impossible date, but I hope you’ll support the festival and the musicians by opting to enjoy the Digital Musicfest option.

Have you already bought or ordered tickets?

I hope that the information above has eased your concerns. The shows will go on with the new schedule, and my hope is that there will be no legal restrictions on presenting the performances 2 months from now.

If most of you are willing to enjoy the concert using Digital Musicfest, the shows could conceivably run even with audience limitations of 50. I’m willing to run the festival at a loss, but with your support, the shows can go on and I can still break even.

What will Digital Musicfest be like?

Click the Image below to watch a video of me and violinist Sadie Fields performing the 1st movement of the Ravel Violin Sonata, recorded on December 15 in the GYMC Recital Hall. (The Digital Musicfest videos will be sized for larger screens.)

We all need beautiful music in these stressful times.
The musicians need opportunities to perform and be paid for their art. We’re all in this together, and I hope that Digital Musicfest makes it possible.

Thanks for your support!
