Liberal MP Lloyd Longfield has sponsored two E-Petitions focused on racial equality.
E-Petition 2663 is calling on the Government of Canada to ban the practice of carding in Canada. The petition was put forward by Guelph resident Carolyn Weatherson and is open for signatures until August 9, 2020.
E-Petition 2672 calls upon the Government of Canada to end the militarization of police forces, actively combat systematic and institutional racism, continue to recognize Canada’s own role in carrying out violence against people of colour and actively encourage other nations to do the same. This petition was initiated by Maxwell Parr of Guelph, Ontario and is accepting signatures until October 13, 2020.
There is no place for racism or bias of any kind within police forces or in our society. It is contrary to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I want to commend Carolyn, Maxwell and the thousands of Canadians who are standing up and using their voices to confront anti-racism and end discrimination.
