#SayTheirNames Candlelight Vigil - Saturday October 24 @ 7pm

For Immediate Release - October 19, 2020

The Guelph Black Heritage Society in collaboration with GAIN media and Onyx Nightclub are presenting #SayTheirNames Candlelight Vigil.

Join us for a night of gathering, grieving and celebration of life on Saturday October24, 2020 from 7pm to 8:30pm.

This virtual event will include spoken word, prayers, music and a moment of silence.  Featured performers include Tracy Cain, Lainey Hayles, Justin Reid and Verese Vassell-Bowen.

Black, racialized and non-racialized members of our community are grieving. The lives that have been lost, reported and not, have carried with them the weight of their injustices. We will gather in remembrance and honour the BIPOC lives we have lost in Canada.

Proceeds from the #SayTheirNames Candlelight Vigil will go towards the #ChangeStartsNow education initiative.

About The Guelph Black Heritage Society  - Established in 2011, the mission of the Guelph Black Heritage Society is to restore and maintain Heritage Hall, originally known as the British Methodist Episcopal (BME) Church, built in 1880 by former fugitive slaves who arrived in the area via the Underground Railroad.   Our mandate is to preserve the Heritage Hall as a cultural heritage building, representing the historical, present, and continued influence of the Black community on the quality of life in Guelph/Wellington and across the county.  This is achieved by raising awareness in Guelph of both local (Guelph and Wellington County) and national Black heritage as well as addressing social issues of importance to Black Canadian communities.
