4 Fall Exhibitions at 10C

Guelph Arts Council Announces Fall Exhibitions at 10C Shared Space

For Immediate Release - November 1, 2019

Guelph Arts Council is pleased to announce four fall exhibitions in the street-level community gallery at 10C Shared Space, 42 Carden Street. The exhibitions feature work by GAC’s artist members. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 pm. Guelph Arts Council is grateful for exhibition support from The Guelph Community Foundation – Musagetes Fund.

First up is GAC’s annual Members’ Show and Sale, featuring the work of ten Guelph artists working in a variety of media, including Fern Cooper, Victoria Covo, Kerry Daly, Judith Elsasser, Laura Harrison, Maria Ibarra, Tania Orton, Robert John Paterson, Sarah Rutledge, and S. Korey Steckle

The show opens on Thursday, November 7 from 6 – 8 pm with GAC’s biannual Sharefest, during which Guelph creatives of all stripes take the stage for rapid-fire sharing of what’s rocking their worlds. Please join us for Sharefest, or pop in to 10C from November 6 – 14. Local art makes great holiday gifts!

Next is Figuratively Speaking from November 16 – 28, a retrospective exhibition of selected paintings by artist Judith Elsasser. Judith is an established Guelph painter who specializes in portraiture and figurative work. Please join us for a wine and cheese reception with the artist on Saturday, November 16 from 2 – 5 pm.

December begins with artist Brian Johnston’s The Halo Project, which runs December 2 - 13.

The project is a photographic portrayal of individual identity in a world of complex cultural, political, educational, spiritual and relational diversity. Brian uses mixed media approaches to explore the human condition and its spiritual relevance - to capture the invisible behind the visible. Join us for an opening and artist’s talk on Thursday, December 5 from 7 – 9 pm.

We close out our 2019 exhibition series at 10C Shared Space with an exhibition of work by Coming Full Circle participants, organized by founder and artist Jay Lefler. Coming Full Circle is a peer support/facilitation and art mentoring organization where people can interact in creative ways and share stories. Through creative and interactive workshops, Jay engages those who want to benefit from healing and growth in a creative, empowering, and safe environment. The exhibition will run December 14 – 23, and details will be announced.

In announcing these exhibitions, GAC Executive Director Patti Broughton said: “We are delighted to present the work of these great local talents this fall. Although Judith and Brian’s media and styles differ, they both seek to capture the essence of our humanity in their figurative work. The Coming Full Circle exhibition will also explore the human experience.”
