Take a Closer Look at “Who We Are”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 23, 2020

Waterloo Regional Down Syndrome Society Invites you to Take a Closer Look at “Who We Are”

During Down Syndrome Awareness Month (October) and leading up to Canadian Down Syndrome Week (November 1st – 7th), the Waterloo Regional Down Syndrome Society (WRDSS) invites you to take a closer look at the unique connections between people with Down syndrome and a family member. The photo series called “Who We Are” explores familial connections and similarities that are often overlooked and replaced with stereotypes and assumptions about people with Down syndrome.

“There still exists the assumption that people with Down syndrome are just like one another and this photo series invites you to look deeper into the uncanny similarities and interests they share with a family member,” explains Tara Hart, Board Co-Chair, WRDSS. “This is the sixth consecutive year we have partnered with local photographer Hilary Gault Camilleri, and her photographic talent and creative vision on these unique photo projects continues to help change perceptions and promote inclusion for people with Down syndrome on an international scale.”

Fifty-six WRDSS Members participated in the photo series and photos will continue to be posted twice daily throughout the month of October on WRDSS’ social media platforms. Select photos will be showcased in the WRDSS 2021 Calendar, which is now available for pre-order on www.wrdss.ca.
