Cancellation of Christmas in the Village

While we have been closely monitoring the status of Covid 19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Christmas in the Village handmade market.

On behalf of the  Downtown Guelph Business Association (DGBA) and Old Quebec Street we regret missing this year and the joy it provides to Vendors and Visitors alike.  However, out of an abundance of caution it is our goal to protect the Vendors, our Tenants, our Guests and our Community.

With the Covid numbers increasing and our category now in Orange we are concerned for further restrictions in the coming weeks when the Market was to start.

We appreciate and thank all of the talented and hardworking vendors that were going to participate in the Market.

Please support these entrepreneurs by shopping small and local.  We will be posting their information and how to contact them on social media shortly. The links to the Christmas in the Village platforms are Facebook  and Instagram.

For Immediate Release - November 13, 2020

Returning for the 4th year with a few edits this year, this highly admired event co-organized by Downtown Guelph Business Association (DGBA) and Old Quebec Street Shoppes is a downtown tradition.

Christmas in the Village is not just a Market but a family friendly festive experience running for three weekends in December leading up to Christmas,
Dec. 5 & 6, Dec. 12 & 13, Dec. 19 & 20th
from 11:00 – 5:00 each day.

The curated Market has a focus on local, handmade, quality items providing an exceptional range of gift buying opportunities. It is free to attend with plenty of covered parking in the West Parkade for guests. As well as the Market, enjoy the beautiful boutique Shoppes, festive live music, whimsical selfie opportunities and the ever popular Christmas train that circles the giant decorated tree.

Marketing Manager at Old Quebec Street, Karen Johnson says, “While we have some special considerations in putting the event together this year, it is important to bring the seasonal cheer while maintaining the Covid protocols.  Some of these conditions will require the market to be smaller with vendors spread out further as well as providing 6 dates to visit rather than the 3 dates from years past.  Social distancing, masks, hand sanitizing will all be strictly adhered to as well as other measures put into place this year.  It is our way to support Downtown Guelph, shopping local and shopping small, and we hope it lifts the spirits and makes for an enjoyable seasonal outing!”

DGBA Operations Manager Sam Jewell says "We are proud that Old Quebec Street Shoppes is taking on the extra work involved to run a Covid-safe event.  By implementing the same measures seen at the Guelph Farmers Market, this event will provide a much needed boost to artisans and Downtown businesses".
