Guelph Nighthawks Announce 2022 USPORTS Draft Selections
 

For Immediate Release - April 19, 2022

Today the Canadian Elite Basketball League unveiled the selections from the two round USPORTS Draft. 


The Guelph Nighthawks held the sixth pick in the 1st Round and the fifth pick in the 2nd Round of the USPORTS Draft, which permits teams to select either Current Year Graduates or Returning Developmental Players which will return to their USPORTS institution following the 2022 CEBL season.


With the 1st Round selection, the Nighthawks drafted 6’0” Guard Elijah Miller from the University of Prince Edward Island. Miller, a Returning Developmental Player from Etobicoke, ON, completed his second year at UPEI where he led the Panthers to the AUS playoffs and established himself as one of the top point guards in the conference. Miller averaged 17.6 points, 5.6 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game, while being named UPEI’s Male Athlete of the Year and a USPORTS 2nd Team All-Canadian.

In the 2nd Round the Nighthawks selected Ibrahima Doumbouya, a 6’6” Forward from the University of New Brunswick. The Calgary, AB product completed his fourth season at UNB where he averaged 12.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, winning the MVP Award as the Reds top men’s basketball player. In his four seasons at UNB Doumbouya has been named to the AUS All-Rookie Team in 2018, was a AUS 1st Team All-Star in 2019 and 2020, and a USPORTS 2nd Team All-Canadian in 2019. 

The Guelph Nighthawks have a rich history with their previous USPORTS players. In 2021 the Nighthawks TJ Lall played a prominent roll for the club, being named the team’s Most Valuable Canadian as a Returning Developmental Player. Lall returned to Brock University this past season where he was named the OUA West Player of the Year and led the Badgers to the USPORTS Final 8. In 2020 the Nighthawks selected guard Marcus Anderson from Carleton University, where he was subsequently nominated as the CEBL’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Elijah Miller and Ibrahima Doumbouya will join the Nighthawks for their first professional training camps, scheduled to start in Guelph on May 18th. The regular season tips-off at the Sleeman Centre on May 26th against the expansion Scarborough Shooting Stars.
