October is Circular Economy Month, and this year the Guelph Tool Library is proud to be collaborating with the City of Guelph and Our Food Future to bring our community a series of events focused on the circular economy.
October marks Circular Economy Month in Canada and the Guelph Tool Library is teaming up with the City of Guelph and Reimagine Food to present a number of activities to promote the benefits of a circular economy.
During October, these organizations are inviting Guelph to learn about the circular economy. Events include a clothing swap, a free community meal, a documentary film screening, and a Repair Cafe.
Communications and outreach coordinator Steph Clarke says,
“We think that our community will really love these events. We hope to create an accessible environment for learning about and engaging in a circular economy. We took the fan-favourite elements of our past events and turned them into a month-long festival!”
In addition to their special offsite events, they are also offering a limited-time opportunity to contribute to a new program, the Circular Computer Project.
Coordinator John Dennis states,
“We have been working with businesses for the last year to support the Guelph-Wellington Digital Equity Coalition, which has allowed us to refurbish laptops to be distributed by community partners to individuals who lack access to tech devices. This year, for Waste Reduction Week from October 16th to 21st, we will be accepting laptops from individuals on a case-by-case basis.”
The organization aims to collect 25 laptops through this drive, and those interested in contributing are asked to fill out an intake form prior to dropping off their donation.
There will be events for everyone to better understand the issues of waste and the opportunities they have to accelerate our transition to a circular economy.
