Wellington County Museum and Archives Hosts Movie Night Featuring Award-Winning Film ‘Peace by Chocolate’

For Immediate Release - July 29, 2025

Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) is pleased to announce a  special movie night featuring the acclaimed Canadian film ‘Peace by Chocolate’.

This  heartwarming and award-winning film tells the inspiring true story of a Syrian refugee family that rebuilds their lives in Nova Scotia through their chocolate-making business.

The screening is being presented as a companion event to the museum's powerful immigration focused exhibitions:

Refuge Canada, created by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, which explores Canada’s place in the global refugee crisis; and

Destination Wellington: Newcomers to Neighbours, which celebrates the diverse  journeys of people who have chosen to build their lives in Wellington County.

“’Peace by Chocolate’ beautifully ties together the themes explored in two of our current exhibitions," said Hailey Johnston, Curator. "It tells the story of the Hadhad family, who journey  from displacement and seeking refuge to relocating to a new home in a Canadian community.  It's a perfect cinematic complement to the real stories visitors can explore in our galleries."

‘Peace by Chocolate’ will be screened on Thursday, August 28, with doors opening at 6:00 pm and the film beginning at 7:00 pm.

Tickets cost $10 + HST per person and can be purchased  online at www.wellington.ca/form/peace-by-chocolate-movie-night or at the door if space  allows. Concessions will be available for purchase, including popcorn, soft drinks, and special  Peace by Chocolate products to complement the film experience.

Guests are encouraged to explore WCMA's complementary exhibitions at the screening or  another visit.

Refuge Canada runs until September 14, 2025

Destination Wellington:  Newcomers to Neighbours runs until spring 2026
