World Champion Prepares to Defend Title
Guelph martial artist Nathan Skoufis readies to compete in the National Black Belt League (NBL) Supergrands World Martial Arts Championships

For Immediate Release - December 16, 2019

Nathan Skoufis will represent Guelph and Canada on the world stage.

The NBL is martial arts most prestigious sanctioning bodies sanctioning tournaments throughout the globe and ranking competitors based on their results in the tournaments. The Supergrands tournament is viewed as the Super Bowl of martial arts tournaments. Eliminations will take place throughout the week until the top two competitors are left, where the final two competitors will compete in the final show for the title.

Skoufis is a 16x World Champion and 5th degree black belt. He has won the NBL Supergrands World Championships back to back years (2017 and 2018) and will be aiming to defend him world title to extend his streak to three straight years. Skoufis will be looking to add to his 16x World Titles. He is the reigning world middleweight champion for NBL.

Skoufis is a multiple time NBL World Champion capturing his first NBL Title in 2009, making him one of the only martial artists to have won world titles in NASKA, NBL, IFMA and NAFMA.

Skoufis is the owner and Head Instructor of the famed ‘Guelph Family Martial Arts’. Skoufis first Supergrands tournament was 2008 in California.

Skoufis says “Supergrands is a really difficult tournament as the competition level is so high with many of the best martial artists attending but it is also a very gruelling tournament that takes place over an entire week. Supergrands was my first tournament that I attended as a junior competitor that drew thousands. I won my first NBL World Title in 2009 in New York, so to have the world championships back in New York State really brings back a lot of memories for me and I can’t really believe it’s already been a decade from that first title and how much has happened since that moment in my martial arts journey. This tournament is one that all of the great martial artists have attend since it’s started, I grew up watching this tournament. This year is the 30th anniversary and I am fortunate for the opportunity to compete at this amazing event.”

The 2019 year has been a busy year for Skoufis already securing victories in Chicago, Toronto, Waterloo, Philadelphia, London, Quebec City, Miami, Ottawa, Atlanta, Augusta, Washington and Minneapolis helping Skoufis on being able to secure his #1 ranking in NASKA.
