Residents have a new tool available to search for restaurants and food businesses offering ready-to-eat takeout food in Wellington County.
A new online map shows takeout locations across all seven member municipalities. Users can further narrow down their search by mealtime and the type of food they are looking for.
The ‘Takeout Food in Wellington County’ map created by the County’s Planning and Economic Development Departments, aims to promote purchasing takeout food from local restaurants and food businesses that had to close due to the province-wide shut down. These businesses will also have limited seating capacity during the re-opening phases.
"Restaurants and some food businesses have been disproportionally affected by the pandemic,”
said George Bridge, Wellington County’s Economic Development Committee Chair.
"Ordering takeout food is a great way to support these businesses and keep them in our communities."
According to Restaurants Canada, almost half of small and medium-sized independent restaurants are in danger of closing permanently if conditions do not improve.
To further promote the map and takeout food options, users are encouraged to share photos of their takeout food on social media using the hashtag #takeoutwellington for a chance to win one of seven 50 dollar gift cards to local restaurants.
The map and contest information can be found at www.wellington.ca/takeout. Businesses wishing to be added to the map or edit their details can submit their information to the website.
