Guelph-based organizations, Bumaroo and Otherwise Studios present an online platform, www.cocreateresidency.com , for Co-Create, a collaboration residency program for emerging and established artists, musicians and creatives of all kinds in which residents are selectively paired with a creative in another field to collaborate virtually.
Co-Create launched its first residency in June 2020, in response to the impact of COVID-19 on the creative community. Looking for ways to keep artists inspired and connected, Otherwise Studios and Bumaroo teamed up and designed this virtual residency program which provides pairs with guidance, structure, and access to recording, video, studio space, and art-making resources to help them produce and document their creative works.
After an open call for applications, 18 residents were selected to participate in Co-Create 2020, ranging from visual artists, to musicians, to writers, and were paired together based on their practices. Each pair worked collaboratively for 3 months virtually, resulting in 9 capstone projects showcased on www.cocreateresidency.com . The final works of Co-Create 2020 take form in a variety of ways, including e-books, video, animation, audio, and photographic documentation of physical artworks. Co-Create afforded residents the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals in a different field, from all across the country including artists from Ontario to Northwest Territories, while being supported by a team of creative professionals throughout the process.
