The County of Wellington has welcomed Inspector Paul Richardson as its new Detachment Commander for the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Inspector Richardson has been a member of the OPP for over 20 years and spent his entire career in Bruce County prior to coming to Wellington last December. Inspector Richardson has worked frontline policing as a Constable and Sergeant, and spent a considerable amount of time patrolling the waters of Lake Huron as a member of the South Bruce Marine Unit. Richardson also completed a secondment in the Crime Unit.

“I am pleased to announce that Inspector Paul Richardson has accepted the position of Wellington County OPP Detachment Commander,” said Warden Kelly Linton. “The County is pleased to have been part of the selection process for this important role. With his extensive policing background and dedication to providing the best possible policing service to all citizens, Inspector Richardson will be a great asset to our community.”

“Inspector Richardson has a strong understanding of the local policing and brings top leadership and management skills to his new role,” said Joanne Ross-Zuj, County of Wellington Police Services Board Chair. “I’m sure Paul will continue in the tradition of top flight Inspectors that the County has been blessed with over the last 20 years.”

Inspector Richardson officially took over command of the Wellington County OPP Detachment on August 5, 2020 after serving as the Interim Detachment Commander for approximately 10 months.
